Summary
The Merciful One... really is merciful. The actions of the Council they serve in nearly destroy them, as well as their Teacher, Aaravos. But while these actions could destroy the world, there is hope in small, tucked away corners. A single spell fired off in defiance of the Council may yet bring forth fruit: may yet stay the hand of a father, righteous in his rage.
Though by the time any hope comes for them, it will be long overdue. Stars do not measure time in days, or weeks, or even years.
No member of the council would suggest that it was not right and proper, that if he wished to slay a dragon, he did so. I suspect we hoped it would be so, that he would vent his fury on the king with the heart of a rabid animal and pass over us like a wind. A stupid thing for the council to hope for. A desperate thing. But what is one sun archdragon, more or less?
“Blood won’t fix this,” he said. “One does not fix a broken bone by hitting it. One fixes it by coaxing it to mend.” He says he will work on every level of this world, with the humans, and the royal dragons, until it is a world Leola was right to love.

Summary
Callum wants to learn magic, and, sulking around the High Mage's office, he gets a teacher that no one knew was there.
Aaravos has been waiting a very long time for someone to look into his mirror besides the dragon who put him there. He wasn't expecting it to be a child, much less a child with no magical training and a heart as pure as the driven snow, but he'll work with what he is given. The two things he isn't running out of are time, and patience.
But Aaravos is not immune to compassion, and the person he was once was not a monster. He may yet be that person again.
He doesn't need to be the bad guy.
