Jedi Padawan Caleb Dume is preparing for the trials that will make him a Jedi Knight when he meets Hera Syndulla, one of the youngest-ever cadets to the Republic's peacekeeping Starfighter Corps. As war tears the galaxy apart, can their love endure?
This is more of a "what if?' or alternate timeline of the prequel era that focuses on Hera and Caleb, and begins about seven years after Order 66 and the fall of the Republic would have occurred in the original timeline. It's based on the premise that Senator Palpatine was unable to manipulate Queen Amidala into calling for a vote of no confidence in Chancellor Valorum, thus preventing him from becoming Chancellor at that point in time, and creating a major setback in his nefarious machinations.
Bonus: Kanan doesn't die in this one.

“I don’t want him to know,” Hera said under her breath. “He’s only with us for a couple weeks. If he passes off to the contact and tells them that we’re a..a…whatever we are, they may say something.”
Kanan chuckles at that. “You think they’ll call off the whole Rebellion because you’re getting laid? Not likely, Hera.”

There should be a rule that Jedi must remain covered from head to toe at all times. It’s something that Hera thinks to herself as her eyes find Kanan for at least the fourteenth time in five minutes. There were plenty of thoughts rolling through her mind as they worked in silence, only the occasional request for a vibrotorque or polarity check prong lingers between them. If there had been conversation, Hera definitely hadn’t noticed.
Then again, she quit noticing anything the second that he removed his sweat dampened shirt and resorted to using it as no more than a cloth to wipe his slick palms as they installed her new magnetic lock. There’s not a doubt in her mind now – he has been doing something differently in his training. It was chiseled all over his chest, in the ripple of his abdomen when he heaved his weight into tightening a bolt, the ripple of power that seemed to start at his shoulders and travel down his biceps into his forearms.
She’s mesmerized by all of it and she should be mesmerized by the impossibly expensive lock, his plan, the fact that he’s done this not just for her but because he wants to do something good.
