Summary

The reimagined telling of the Dungeons and Dragons campaign 'Veil of Echoes'. This campaign is set in the year 1500 in Faerun, after the canon events within the preexisting universe - it is a divergence from other canon material after the year 1493. It is told in the perspective of our seven protagonists: Vena, Zae'lia, Umbra, Go'Ven, Korvin, Ayla, and Itha.Some spoilers ahead for other D&D material, as well as Baldur's Gate III as this is set in the same universe, roughly eight years later.

Back at it again at the Krispie Kreme, Avernus version.
Karlach is trapped here, fighting every day in this horrible literal hell pit. But this time, she isn’t alone! Astarion and Wyll are here! But… gods, maybe that is making this shit worse, instead of better? Astarion keeps getting injured in battles, and Karlach doesn't feel any less guilty about things when he repeatedly says he's fine, he was tortured all the time before, it’s nothing to him, look how fast he heals.
Karlach was already scared she had brought him to Avernus only for him to die, instead of getting to enjoy his new free life, then today he managed to fall into a pit of lava during a battle. They fish him out, but now Karlach has to deal with protecting a badly burnt and feetless vampire on top of all of the other horrors of the hells.
And he won’t stop making jokes about the situation long enough for her to fucking think! ARGH!!!

"Come with me to Avernus," Wyll says, easy, like he’s asking Astarion around for tea. Right. The Blade of Frontiers is the Blade of Avernus now. Sworn to cleanse the Hells of the devils that threaten the Sword Coast or some such rot. What an absurd idea. For a moment, Astarion imagines several ways to kill him painfully. Go there. To the place of her worst nightmares. The place she refused to return to despite his pleading. After everything that's happened, to step foot in that place, without her. It felt like a mockery of his pain to even suggest it.
The sun rises after the fall of the Absolute and Astarion burns first. Overcome with grief from the death of the first person he truly cared for, and haunted by her memory, Astarion accompanies the Blade of Avernus to Hell.
