Summary
The two of them were at odds, broken in friendship. McCoy, for once in his career, didn't know how to fix things. He, the physician, the one who was supposed to heal, could only rub raw the festering wounds of his best friend.
As the Enterprise crew rediscovers a lost species, Jim's world falls apart. Losing his best friend was only the beginning.

Spock blinks, then swallows and nods. He just met this boy and already he’s-“I’m Jim!” He holds up the ta’al and smiles “I’m three and I’m the world’s first half betazoid, half human.” He grins brightly “We have something in common.”
Spock stares, then holds up his own ta’al. “My name is Spock. I am approximately 6 terran years. It appears that we do.”

Summary
It's rare that Jim's blindness means he has the advantage, but he does when meeting with the Thylons--a blind species who live under ground. Their mission is supposed to be a peaceful one, but when Jim finds himself injured and stuck in a cave with an unconscious Spock, he's fairly sure the Thylons missed that whole mission of peace memo.
