Summary
From the time that Rosamund was old enough to understand, she knew her life was forfeit, at least until her True Love saved her. She didn’t know what they would save her from, not yet, but she knew they would. Her life would not start until she met this True Love. So she took to reading, climbing, and being wild. If nothing she did counted until her True Love saved her, she would do as much as she could to impress them, in hopes that they would marry her.

Summary
You guide them towards the fireplace, towards the altar. All great works require great sacrifice, and these are your children, your flesh and blood and bone. The heart is not so significant in matters such as this. You made them once. Your flesh their flesh, your blood their blood, your bone their bone. You will unmake them now. Their flesh your flesh, their blood your blood, their bone your bone. They will always be a part of you.
There is an art to sacrifice, to destruction.

Summary
“where did emeryson go?” she said quietly, her eyes avoiding her mother’s. she heard the spoon her mother was stirring with still, and she hunched in on herself further.
“she was taken,” her mother said, and ylfa doesn’t understand. who took her? how was she taken? why did nobody find her, stop her from being taken in the first place?
“by who?” ylfa asks, because maybe if she knows who took her, she can try to get her back. because even if they weren’t friends, ylfa doesn’t like the feeling her absence leaves behind. the empty desk in the small classroom is obvious, and nobody dares to go near it. they haven’t taken her things out of it yet, and ylfa doesn’t know if it’s because they’re too scared to get close, or if they think she might come home one day.
ylfa hopes she’ll come home. even if they’re not close, she knows her family misses her.
AKA ylfa wasn't the first child to be taken by the wolf, and she wasn't the first child abandoned by their family.

While passing through the thick forest en route to Elegy Rosamund and Ylfa take watch.
OR
I just wanted to write a cute scene of Rosamund cleaning up Red's new haircut but I realized she probably does not have scissors on her person at all times so instead here we are.

Summary
everyone else is watching mother goose now, and rosamund wishes they wouldn’t. she wishes they would look at her, for just a moment. then maybe they would stop what happens next.
“she wants to talk to her, to make amends,” mother goose says, and rosamund knows what’s coming but she wishes she didn’t. she wishes she had never escaped the briars and had never left that cart. she wishes and wishes but it seems no one hears.
“what if, you pretended to be her.”
AKA I thought that a fun way to get the glass shard from the fairy godmother would be to have rosamund pretend to be cinderella bc theyre sisters, and all of the not good feelings that would come with it

Summary
Something sharp on glass. His mind jumps to Jack, and he whirls around to the window so quickly he nearly topples off of his stool.
Eyes, wide and wet and far too bright against the black night outside their little home. It’s only then that he thinks of the gander, waiting in every shadow, and he thinks of the beasts in his stories, where fact and fiction intertwine into cautionary tales, creatures that knock at closed doors and rattle locks and bare their teeth at just the right moment to keep children in their beds when the stars show. But then a voice comes, muffled through the window, young and shaky. “Mother? Mother Goose?”Timothy and Henry get a visitor. All the polite monsters knock.

Summary
Her grace - damn her grace - her voice is not graceful here, but her ears at least are sharp, and as the murmuring edges into her consciousness she bolts upright, feels something just-healed and raw tear back open within her, gives a wordless, choking cry - She has never been alone. Rosamund du Prix, a lost girl in the forest, and isn't that the way so many fairy tales begin? She can't go on. Can't move. Has never known agony like this, half-crawls half-stumbles until she is hunched over a mossy patch of earth, retches and retches. Before her eighteenth birthday, she could have counted the number of times she had seen her own blood on one hand.
Rosamund escapes the kingdom of Reverie, and forges on through the Blackwood.
