He looked around the square in front of him. It looked the same as it always had, minus the people. It was completely empty. And Kiko suddenly realised something.
If he was going to die - and yes, he most definitely was going to die – then he did not want to die alone.

The soldiers of Clock Town finally realise that the window of opportunity to leave has passed, both for them and anyone still in town. These are most likely their final hours.
And if this is the end, they are not gonna spend it alone – and neither is anyone else.
“Get everyone you can,” commanded Viscen, “and meet us at the Milk Bar.”
It’s as good a place to spend the end of the world as any.
