Summary
After all is said and done, LWJ accepts the position of Chief Cultivator because he's the only feasible candidate by default, because he feels obliged, and because it might be useful. WWX roams the realm because bad reputations linger, he no longer belongs with a clan, and Cloud Recesses aren't exactly welcoming of him. Neither is too happy. Time certainly is no healer, but it provides space to evaluate, and if one has the courage to tear free of old habits and constraints, it might even lead to peace and clarity.
Canon freely interpreted, not too fussed. Timeline mashup b/w book and live-action.

The conflicted relationship b/w WWX/Wei Ying and his Martial Younger Brother, JWY/Jiang Cheng, with a good helping of LWJ/Lan Zhan and a cameo smattering of Jin Ling and Lan Sizhui as friends. Lots of angst and conflict and I'm afraid no happy ending; I just can't see it for that particular brotherly relationship. This won't preclude them struggling to gain mutual understanding and coming to terms with the past and each other, but it's a hard fight and not a particular fruitful one. Lots of angst, dark Jiang Cheng, Lan Zhan's shadow self, Wei Ying wrapped in love.

A retelling of how LWJ and WWX first met at Cloud Recesses; intended to read as a loose sequence of memories as LWJ and WWX are together for some tender M/M intimacy at the end (no technical descriptions). Ratings will vary by story in this series.
I love Chinese poetry and have used some lines by Bai Juyi and from the Book of Odes. They don’t translate easily and much of the layered meaning is lost through the linguistic differences and loss of cultural context, but I still like it and hope you’ll enjoy reading.
This first story in the series is set in their mountain home, at night, after a day of working their field and taking care of their everyday needs. Perhaps it's domestic fluff?

He turns to the camera, and then waves his hand, arm still over Eddie’s shoulder, who gulps, blushing, before turning around and starts waving too.The screen turns to black, and it fades away, in that way the old movies did, and the last thing it shows are Richie and Eddie greeting the future in each other’s arms.

“Ah well,” he smiles, and he thinks of Eddie, the way his thoughts always lead to Eddie. “I had a good time.”
--Or, even though Eddie doesn't, Richie lives.
