Summary
Never, in all his Spirals, had the Drifter ever found Humor. Maybe the Orokin author of his favorite "Tales of Duviri" storybook simply didn't appreciate the art of a good joke. Maybe he was, as Teshin often said with that wry smile, merely a sarcastic little shit.
For the first time in centuries, he smiled so broadly his cheeks hurt.
Maybe some of Mathila's mad happiness was rubbing off on him after all, because despite dying day after day in futile attempts to leave, now that he finally could, he wanted to stay and make his make-believe kingdom a better place.

“Dad, I can’t… I can’t shake it off. It’s killing me, more than Thrax’ soldiers, more than the Sentients…” He puts his finger on her mouth, silencing her.
“Sleep now. Lay your head on my lap, and sleep.”

More recently he had been pulled into Duviri as he slept with increasing, worrying frequency; Spirals growing tighter, faster, more intense. Before, he could quiet the swirling emotions and spend the rest of his sleep wandering the twisting pasture in peace. Now, he’d just barely come off the heels of one breakdown before being caught in the build of another.
