Summary
Loosely based on The Nutcracker and the Mouse King and Beauty and the Beast. It is the first story in a seven-part series that retells the many tales of a prince trapped in a body not his own.
In 1857, fourteen-year-old Maria lives a comfortable but dull life, and the only thing that cheers her up is the stories that her uncle/godfather tells her. One day, he presents her with a doll that has hideous features by her family’s standards, but she ignores the hurtful comments and protects the doll at all cost, even from a rat that will stop at nothing to harm it for his own purposes.
