This was, according to all middle-school literature and also The Clique by Lisi Harrison (which Emily had found in the library last week and it was so good even if it was a little bit dated), the kind of social outcast of a girl that you weren’t supposed to talk to, but also Emily had sort of never quite felt like the kind of girl who got invited to slumber parties anyway, and she didn’t really want to be the kind of girl who didn’t talk to other girls just because their hair looked like it had survived a scissor attack.
