To a certain extent, there was pleasure to be found in the heat of summer after spending the entire winter outdoors in the cold and the snow. The pleasurable heat of summer didn't usually include being thankful for a heatwave though.
Arnd was generally content with his decision to retire, and counting his blessings for recent decision to install air conditioning in his home, as the summer temperatures rose.
Now he had to decide whether he was hallucinating the vision of Erik standing on his doorstep, wanting the air conditioning and a friendly ear to confide it.
He probably wasn't imagining it, or he was going to have serious words with the universe.

Poslední večer Mistrovství světa ve švédském Östersundu znamená i velkolepou párty. Několik významných i méně známých biatlonistů se sejde v největším apartmánu a slaví, jenom jeden z nich sedí na pokoji, marně se snaží zastavit slzy a přemýšlí. Člověk, bez kterého si neumí představit jedinou zastávku světového poháru, předčasně ukončil sezónu a Benedikt Doll si najednou připadá, jako by se v celém vesmíru nacházel jen on. Všude je prazvláštní ticho a prázdno, zbyl jen smutek. Odvahu, aby mu řekl, proč mu tak chybí, však hledá jen stěží.

Rok 2017. Mistrovství světa v Hochfilzenu právě začalo. Individuální závody klepou na dveře a jakékoliv komplikace si nikdo z účastníků nemůže dovolit. Tréninky probíhají hladce, rozhovory s přáteli a trenéry také, přesto se u jednoho z biatlonistů problém objeví. Simon Schempp není z těch, kteří by si probíhající závody zrovna užívali. Důvod je však úplně jiný, než si všichni myslí.
