You did your best to protect her with a weapon that you always take with you anywhere, but this introducer was a powerful enemy. After a long battle, you lay on the ground, coughing your own blood. Everything hurts, but at least your friend had time to run away. It's clear that you were dying, this is probably the end. But you can do something before taking your last breath! You promised your father to stop using magic because it's too chaotic, but what choice did you have anyway? Using the remains of your power and reaching for your soul, you use a spell to end the skeleton and take him with you in the hugs of death! Silence... did it work?

“Thanks, Paps.” Sans replied, taking the blanket and dropping it over the sleeping human. Proceeding to give the child an affectionate pat on the head. The sight made Papyrus think of when he and Sans were younger.
Seeing his brother in such a state filled Papyrus with his own feeling of euphoria. After all his brother has done for him, even including all the times he has annoyed him with the puns, Papyrus felt that Sans deserved his own bit of happiness. His own chance to have the life he wants.

Ink desperately wants a soulmark. He wishes he had that little sign of existence, a tiny mark on your chest to signal that there was someone out there who would impact you so deeply it went soul-deep. But no soulless being has ever had a mark across the entire multiverse, much like how no one with a soul has ever managed to lose theirs. He doesn't care. There's no point in not trying, right?
Or:
After a close call with Dream almost discovering Ink's lack of a mark, and by extension his soullessness, Ink decides to give himself a soulmark. It doesn't go well.
