“I know that this is a lot to take in right now, but we need to act quickly because you’re the country’s new First Mate.”
Rose said it with such weight, I wish I knew what she was talking about. It sounded like I was going to be steering a boat.
“I’m the what?”
“The First Mate.” I continued to stare at Rose who stared right back at me. “The position is vacant, currently, but you’ll be filling it, which is why we need to get you to the capital as quickly as possible.”
“Rose,” Poe grabbed the folder out of her hands and gave it to me. There was a fancy seal on the cover, but I didn’t have time to inspect it before it was opened. “Technically, you’ll be the First Lady, but since you haven’t been announced yet, the gender neutral term is First Mate.”
I looked down at the folder in my hands to see a picture: President Benjamin Solo.
