He felt them, long before they warped in.
Chase Young was beaming. Literally. His aura was almost tangible – a blinding glow of golden energy surrounding him. Iridescent and sparkling like the ocean horizon during sunrise.
In contrast, the source of all that newfound energy felt like a miniature sun that has collapsed into itself – a black void of turbulent space, almost hidden beneath the blinding light stolen from it.

Randy whooped and cheered, and for a moment, like the projected sky above them, Ninja could almost believe that the boy standing next to him was a boy living a life full of joys as unburdened and straightforward as the wind in one’s hair. For a shameful second, he could delude himself into believing he was more heart than shadow, that this moment was not built on the foundations of guilt, failures and regret.
