The gunshot cracked through the air, and a battle with an Ancient Green Dragon was averted in the heart of Whitestone, in the aftermath of the attack of Thordak’s hatchlings. The tension in the air had been thicker than the viscera congealing across the grounds of the city as all eyes turned to the last son of the de Rolo line…

It had been a message. To him. Vox Machina had listened and united with him: then they will hunt her down. But Raishan pushed back. No, she told them. She insisted that they would be playing right into Ripley's hands, and that they must stay the course and finish the Cinder King now, once and for all.
"We cannot fight a giant with an adder in our boot," Percy told her.
They had reached an impasse. And their alliance was dissolved. Vox Machina would seek out Ripley at first light.
But there was something that none of them had counted on: the adder had never left.
