Summary
This time, you kiss back. It’s awkward, and chaste, and wonderful. Still, there’s something missing. You’ve read many stories about love, about the spark between people, a special feeling nothing can compare to. You’ve written many yourself. Yet, all you feel is the pleasant warmth of another’s body, the joy you feel around friends. No burning in your heart, no all-consuming desire. You love it, you love her, but not in the way you’re meant to.
Is that bad? That you’re enjoying this wrong? You’re not sure. Your only experience with this sort of thing is fiction (for surely what your brother and father did wouldn’t count), and you’re of course aware that there’s a lot of difference between books and real life. Maybe this was normal, and that was just an exaggeration, like how in fiction fathers loved their daughters.
You try not to worry about it.
