The first time Jean realizes Neil may be something other than a beta, he nearly kills himself. Then, after a moment of consideration, he nearly kills Neil. It seems a mercy compared to what Riko will do if Jean’s suspicions about Neil’s designation are correct.

Summary
Everyone knows that Jean Moreau has rules about being touched. It’s to be expected, having grown up in a cult where bodily autonomy was nonexistent and boundaries were punished. Jean has rules about who, where, and when people are allowed to touch him.
So why does Neil Josten seem to be the exception?
// Or five times Neil touches Jean around others and once when they’re alone.
Chapter POV's: Renee, Coach Rhemann, Jeremy, Abby, Kevin, plus Neil.

Summary
“I think I’ve got the timeline now,” James says. “The previously unexplained hospital stay happened several days after Kevin approached us about the transfer. My guess is it took a bit of time out of the… environment… of the Nest for his body to really start feeling the high sugars. And with the state of his injuries, I can’t imagine discerning one pain from another was possible.”
“It’s insane. Everything about it makes perfect sense and none at all. I keep trying to find the words but the only thing coming to my mind is just ‘what the fuck’ on repeat?”
“The more I find out about Edgar Allen, the angrier I get,” Rhemann confesses. “I’m just relieved that Neil dragged him here when he did.”
“Jean’s not,” Jeremy says immediately. “He has creatively threatened his death multiple times.”
“No, I don’t suspect he is,” James says sagely. “But it doesn’t matter, because he’s here to be angry about it.”
