His hands wrap around your waist immediately, pulling you closer despite the layers of fabric in between. "You deserve it, sweetheart." John whispers into your ear as he tucks himself into the crook of your neck, his forehead hot against your skin. "Thanks, John." You answer, curling yourself further into him as long as he'll let you. There's no wedding band digging into your waist, the item you saw once during your first mission with him and never again. You count to five, slow breaths as you inhale his scent, and pull back. He lets you, releasing his grip on your waist just to curl a hand around the nape of your neck. Your foreheads touch and you close your eyes at the swirl of emotion between you. "Good job. I mean it."
