John Walker needs an absolute peace, from pain, from control, from the man named James Barnes in front of him.
"What about you?" Barnes's voice low, "what do you think you need orders? Need to be used? Need to be degraded? " His thumb gently brushed the blood vessels beating in Walker's temple.
An almost gentle contrast made Walker stiff. Walker's breath was stuck in his throat, and all the elaborate defenses, all the arrogant disguises, fell apart under the weight of those eyes and that question. He felt a sense of exposure that almost made him vomit, but at the same time, a terrible and long-awaited sense of relief welled up from the cracks."Yes, maybe ..." He admitted hoarsely, and his voice was almost inaudible.
"No," Barnes denied softly, but his tone was extremely positive, like stating a fact that had already been discovered, which surprised Walker. He thought that his affirmation was the response Barnes wanted. "What you need is to stop thinking, someone needs to take over your hyperactive brain, and you need to let go of all the responsibilities and expectations that keep you awake at night."
