Summary
In the years that follow, poets will stain their fingers writing tanka to mourn a girl barely fledged who was lost to the sea. Musicians will set nimble hands to taut strings and sing of the waves that dragged her under, of her last gasp for breath before the waters stole her away. Historians will reserve for her disappearance and death the most modest of passages amidst the pages devoted to her patrician brother and his noble family. Her betrothed will be mentioned in an anodyne article in the local paper, his bankruptcy an inevitability when her family clawed back the lifeline of her dowry.
All of this is, of course, complete and utter nonsense.
Except for the footnote about the betrothed. But he wasn’t important.
Or: Rukia meets a handsome merman while collecting treasures on the shore, and he decides he'd like to have her as his treasure, instead.
