Bleeding. The Commoner was bleeding. His eyes darted across his body, tracking The Commoner's breath as it stuttered, each breath dragging its way past his lips to sink into his lungs. His hand pressed the deep gash in his side, thick crimson blood seeping into the dark, torn fabric, staining it nearly black in a starburst of color.
"I didn't… know anywhere else to- go." His voice was raw, jagged at the edges, like each word had to crawl its way out of his throat with sharp claws. His words slurred together, pushing against one another like they were competing for space in his mouth. The Commoner swayed on his feet, his chocolate brown eyes hazy and unfocused. He took a step backwards. Forwards. His eyes closed, before he suddenly slumped forward like a rock, his legs faltering for a moment before giving out from beneath him.
Nice couldn't help but reach out to catch him.

The Commission is closing in. And Fate is tightening the noose around his neck. X has no choice but to stick to the same flimsy strategy he's been following this whole time—feign apathy. Throw away his civilian life and pretend nothing in the world mattered to him so the forces controlling the heroes in the Tower can't get a grip on him.
