Summary
Jiang Cheng manages to at least keep his sobs in until he closes his door behind him, but then he’s absolutely helpless against them.
And besides the all consuming panic there’s only one other thought in his mind.
He wants to see Nie Mingjue.
Jiang Cheng scrambles for his phone and he tries not to notice just how many messages he has missed over the last few days, which is relatively easy with how his whole vision is blurry from the tears.
He clicks into his chat with Nie Mingjue and simply types Please come over before he sends it off and then Jiang Cheng sinks to the floor right where he stands and curls into a ball, sobbing his heart out. He doesn’t even know if Nie Mingjue will come or if Jiang Cheng inadvertently pushed him away already, but there’s nothing Jiang Cheng can do about it now.
He simply has to trust that Nie Mingjue will come over.

Summary
Jiang Cheng is nine when he tells his soulmate his name.
‘I don’t want to know’ is the reply he receives and Jiang Cheng’s face falls.
He scrubs his own name off his skin and sees with relief that his soulmate does the same on their end, but then the implication of what just happens hits him and he crawls under his blanket again.
His soulmate doesn’t want him. They didn’t even ask for his name before or any other identifying feature and now they didn’t even offer anything in return and Jiang Cheng has to bite back tears at that.
Fine, he thinks after long miserable minutes. If his soulmate doesn’t want him, then he doesn’t want his soulmate either.

Rumor had already made the entire cultivation world aware that Jiang Fengmian had found the orphaned son of Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze, and that he had taken him into his home as his ward, allowing him to become a Jiang sect disciple – treating him almost as one of the family, even. “Absolutely not,” he says, his voice tightly controlled, not for the first time and Jiang Cheng hums.
“Mingjue,” he says and Nie Mingjue has to take a deep breath so that he doesn’t lose it right then and there.
“Wanyin,” he gives back, because two can play that game.
“It fits perfectly,” Jiang Cheng tells him for at least the third time in the last five minutes and that’s it.

Nie Mingjue is still shaking out his hand when they leave Jiang Cheng’s family’s manor.
Jiang Cheng is unnaturally still at his side and Nie Mingjue knows that he fucked up, big time. But it just couldn’t be helped. Yu Ziyuan and Jiang Fengmian were absolutely trash parents and Nie Mingjue would not let that stand.
“I’m not sorry,” Nie Mingjue says when they reach his car. “I mean, I’m sorry I so clearly upset you, but I’m not going to apologize for decking your father. Or yelling at your mother. They deserved it,” Nie Mingjue huffs out, but his heart sinks when Jiang Cheng can’t meet his eyes.
“Can you just drive me home?” he asks and Nie Mingjue is certain that this is it.
Jiang Cheng was always so afraid that he would be the one to fuck up their relationship but in the end it turns out to be Nie Mingjue.
