Summary

She burned like a bright star in the galaxy as she tried to do as much good as she could in a universe pitted against her from every angle, but every time she fell, nothing would stop her from coming back taller than before.

Summary
Takes place during Mass Effect 3: Citadel.
Miranda and Shepard decide to unwind with a girls' night out at the Silver Coast Casino. The evening is filled with laughter, a few too many drinks, and Shepard letting her guard down in a way she rarely does. By the time they leave the casino, Shepard is decidedly worse for wear, much to Miranda's amusement.
Miranda delivers a very tipsy Shepard to Kaidan who is waiting patiently at her new apartment.
Chapter Three is rated as explicit for the sexy times. One and Two are free from this if that isn't your sort of thing.

This series will include a slow-burn romance with Garrus, and features a darker, more complex Shepard. Some dialogue is lifted directly from the game and expanded upon, but this story will mostly be filling in the gaps and exploring a struggling Shepard who finds herself now carrying the weight of an entire universe's future on her shoulders.
This story was originally made to be a single, long retelling of the ME series, but I have made the decision to cut each game into its own fic as part of a 3 story series titled Compromise Who I Am. For the purposes of this series, this story serves mostly as prologue. The themes of this work will become considerably darker in the second and third installments, but warnings will be given where needed.

When Shepard goes to Omega, she finds her old friend and his vigilante squad holed up and fending off three united mercenary groups. She also finds the ten-year-old self-made vigilante Garrus took under his wing. It doesn’t take long to realize that leaving him with a normal family isn’t an option. She and Garrus will just have to do.
Cloud, for his part, has no plans or ambitions after killing Sephiroth for the fourth time and saving (almost) everyone. He certainly didn’t intend to strand himself in a dimension of spacefaring civilizations on the verge of total annihilation. Still, a suicide mission past the Omega-4 relay sounds like the perfect way to go out.
