Summary
Jakes drew himself up to his full height and took a threatening step forward, one hand clutching the cigarette too tightly, and the other resting on his cutlass. If anything, this only spurred the brat on further.
"Go ahead" Morse said, gesturing at the weapon, "Let's see how well that works out for you".
He took a deep breath, tried to block out unhelpful thoughts of stormy sea eyes, and forced himself to remain somewhat calm.
"The second we reach land, you're off my ship!"
"The second we see land, I’ll swim!"Or, the one where everyone's a pirate.

Summary
Morse turned, back of his hand gesturing to some unknown place behind him. “There’s an abandoned school nearby, neighbor said. Closed about a decade ago—a boy’s school.”
Oh god.
The sound of Morse’s fingers ruffling through drying notebook pages sent a shiver down Jakes’ neck. The skin on his back felt suddenly taut, stretched too thinly over tight muscles. A tightening in his throat warned of a sudden oncoming bout of nausea.
“Ah yes,” Morse said, squinting down at the right page, “Blenheim Vale, he called it.”

Summary
You hate him at first. Bloody upstart, taking your place with such ease, gliding through in a way you never had the opportunity to. Coaster, pretty enough, in an angular way, pretentious, edges that would make an angel bleed and a mind that would pick apart that blood. Permanently watching, sticking his bloody nose in it, in every way that makes your nerves stand on edge.
So, in summary, you hate himor mirrors
