Whumptober 2023 Day 19: Floral Bouquet/Psychology/I'm not as stupid as you think I am
“Why, Master,” he whispered to Reigen once, petals in his hair, when he visited, desperate for company beyond that of his grieving parents. “Why do people give flowers?”
His master had looked at him from across the table, a bento in front of him and another pushed towards Mob, his chin in his hands and eyes grieved. Scruff dotted his face, and his tie was undone. “To show compassion, I guess.”
Mob stared at his own bento then, numb to the world. The flowers in his hands he wished would wilt and be with his brother. Compassion was beautiful. Flowers were beautiful. Death was not. Flowers may have matched the emotion, but not the situation.
Or maybe it was just another one of those things he didn’t understand.
Or
Guilt and blame haunts him, and Mob has no idea how to deal with the looming thought that all of this, all the grief and pain and flowers that taint his house, is all his fault. He should have done more.
