Summary
“He had supposed for years that he had no secrets from himself. Here was proof that he had a great big secret somewhere inside, and he could not imagine what it was.”
― Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse-Five
He’s been here before. This was the exact cell Jacob had kept him in during his first trial. There were several other cages around him, a body lying limp in one and the others either housing pacing judges or nothing at all. Forty some feet in front of him is the door to the veterans center. He can see the interior layout if he closes his eyes, which doors held projectors and bloody chairs, which rooms held rations and which rooms held bunks. He knows that if he can just make it inside there would be a side door that opened out into a drive way and if he were quick, if he were smart, he could escape into the mountains. Jacob’s judges were well trained and his Chosen were unrelenting but Judas is sharp and he knows these mountains better than anyone.
