“We got your class list today. There’s 1 person ahead of you.” Cassandra spoke with disdain. “I was top of my year. And you will be to.”
The urge to roll her eyes was gnawing at her.
“Luckily. We know how to get you there. Violet Lanes is ahead of you by a few credits for physical extracurriculars. Hockey, wrestling, and uh, lacrosse. You need to pick up a sport.”
“Mom-“
“That’s final, young lady. You need to think about your future. Being Valedictorian will help you get where you want to be.”
“I’m a freshman!” Caitlyn tried to object.
“Perfect time to learn a sport.”

With pressure from her mother to be at the top of her class, Caitlyn Kiramman needs to start playing a sport to do so. Just an extra credit. In an effort to rebel (while still following rules), she picks lacrosse; a sport her mother has declared is for animals. And she asks Vi, knowing her mother has distaste for the girl, to teach her.
