Summary
As they round the corner of the play structure, Dean hears something in the distance like wood banging against metal. His eyes narrow as he searches for the source until he spots a small, chubby black kitten wedged between two slats of fencing at the far side of the playground. Its fur is matted and its tiny body trembling as it fights to free itself. But what catches Dean’s attention most are its eyes, an unnatural, almost ethereal shade of blue.
A shiver runs down Dean’s spine, as he approaches the fence with caution. The kitten’s two tails flick and twist as it tries to pull itself free. Dean blinks, shaking off the weird feeling. He’s never been the superstitious type, but then again, he’s never seen anything like this creature before.
"You know what they say about black cats, right?" Sam calls out, his face twisting with worried apprehension as Dean glances back at him.
Dean huffs, already crouched in front of the fence. "Yeah, I know—bad luck, right? But don’t you think we’ve had more than enough of that crap to last a lifetime? Seriously, Sam, what’s one little black cat actually gonna do?"

Summary
Dean is doing his usual thing again: pretending to hold it together, even though he’s clearly already given up inside. That’s why Sam has forced down all his feelings about what happened with Amy. Right now, Dean is punishing himself enough on his own. Sam fears it wouldn’t take much for Dean to snap, lose control, and do something reckless enough to get himself killed.
Sam swallows hard, his throat suddenly dry. He knows that if he tries to bring anything up right now, he might say something harsher than intended that he would inevitably regret. But waiting for his brother to speak first is equally pointless. Because it won’t happen, Dean will drive, drink, and drive some more until something inside him finally breaks open. When that moment arrives, it will be a visceral explosion of all the pent-up fear and anger he’s been trying to keep locked away. It will be violent, messy, and unpredictable, a storm of emotions that could leave them both reeling.
“What about Bridgewater?” Sam says, scanning the highway as exit signs for Massachusetts start to appear. He keeps his voice quiet. “There's a lot of unverified lore about the place, and we’re not too far away. It could be worth checking out.”

"Hannah’s heart aches for Dean, not just because she’s his nurse, but also because of what she feels through her connection with Castiel. The angel’s presence inside her has become a constant over the years. Now, in these moments when they are near Dean, his grace begins to hum. It’s subtle and almost imperceptible, yet it is there, a faint stirring accompanied by a distinctive pull of something Hannah recognizes but has never felt from Castiel before.
It’s strange to think of an angel experiencing something as human as desire or attraction, yet Hannah senses that it exists. Castiel is drawn to Dean in a way that even he doesn’t fully understand, and it’s not merely the result of some grand celestial plan. This feeling runs deep, going far beyond duty.
A small smile tugs at her lips as she steps closer to Dean’s bed. She knows that tending to her patients' emotional well-being isn’t part of her job, but Hannah can’t help herself. If Castiel refuses to acknowledge what he’s feeling, maybe she can do something about it. Perhaps some light-hearted flirting might help both Dean and the angel, even if Castiel would never dare to admit it."

The boys go pumpkin picking. Dean spends ages looking for the perfect pumpkin, it can't be any old squash, it has to be 'the one' and as he looks across the orange field, he eyes find a certain angel.
Castiel, always one for strays, collects all the misshapen and discoloured pumpkins and convinces the hunter to let him get them all because he's sad no one else will want them.
Also, Sam is there. Kind of, he finds an excuse to leave the field, refusing to be the third wheel of this weird eye-fucking tricycle any longer.
Post-finale, Cas has been saved from the Empty and life is the most normal its even been, well, as normal as our boys are.
My first submission (ever) for Suptober 2024! The prompt 'Autumn'.
