Summary
Recently, an major-scale assassinations on over half of London's active police personnel, and now, Detective Soot, along with his apprentice, Detective-in-Training Tommy, to investigate the scene.
However, after things go oddly silent, without even a peep from his usually loud apprentice, Wilbur's gut says that something is wrong, but he ignores it and continues his investigation.
After a while, Wilbur hears something—the noticeable sound of metal scraping against the floor in the distance, in another room, not made by either he nor Tommy—and cautiously goes to investigate further, ordering Tommy to remain put.
When he goes to investigate, despite his gut telling him that he needed to get out of there—he needs to make a good example for his student—he rounds a corner, in what would usually be the interrogation room, out of sight to anyone. Albeit, what was just simple stress soon cascades into outright panic once he feels a cloth over his face, and in the blink of an eye, everything goes dark.

Or that fic that Wilbur and Tommy are detectives, the syndicate is well, the syndicate, and Wilbur gets kidnapped. That's it. That's the plot.
