They used to move in sync, on the same line, in the same city, with the same dream.
Now Mitch wears gold and black, and Auston’s still stuck in blue and white.
Practice doesn’t feel the same. Neither does home. But after a heavy reunion, and an even harsher goodbye, one post seems to change the weight left behind.

Summary
Willy raises his eyebrows as he turns to face Auston. “Dude, you’re the captain of the fucking Toronto Maple Leafs. No chance he doesn’t know who you are.”
“If he does, he hasn’t said anything.” Auston shrugs. “Willy, I’m screwed.”
Willy grins and there is zero sympathy on his face. Fuck him. “You’re in love with the barista who you think is cute but you don’t even know. There’s a difference.”
“I’m not – I’m not in love,” Auston splutters, chucking a pillow at Willy’s face. “And no. I just-”
“-you’re a middle school boy and you have a crush,” Willy trills. “That’s so much better, oh my God. We’re going to the coffee shop when we’re back home.”
---
Auston's become a regular at a very particular coffee shop. He'll let the barista that's there every morning think it's because he really likes their coffee. (It's not.)

Summary
Breakaway offers a thoughtful, slow-burn reimagining of Eric McNally and Sam Miller’s origin story—an emotional prequel to Breakfast with Scot.
Alternating between Eric’s closeted life as an aging NHL player and Sam’s carefully controlled world as a sports lawyer in a failing relationship, the fic explores how two men shaped by trauma, family expectations, and loneliness slowly find connection in each other.
Set in the gritty, hyper-masculine world of early-2000s professional hockey, Breakaway takes its time unpacking themes like internalized homophobia, PTSD, and the price of silence. A violent on-ice hit pulls Eric into early retirement—and into Sam’s orbit—forcing both men to confront what they really want.
With a mix of vulnerability, quiet humor, and romantic tension, Breakaway is a story about choosing love when it feels impossible, and learning to live honestly after years in hiding. For fans of mutual pining, hurt/comfort, angst, with a happily ever after that feels earned.
There will be more installments set in the movie timeline and into the future.

Summary
And sometimes, Joe would look back.
Their eyes would meet for a moment too long, and Matt would feel his heart press against his ribs like it wanted out.
But the look Joe gave him was always the same.
It was kind. Familiar. Full of warmth. But it never reached deep enough.
It was a look that said, your eyes are beautiful, but I don’t know how to hold them like that.
A look that said, I see you, but not in the way you want me to.
A look that meant, you are precious to me, but not like this—not in the way you’re silently asking me to be.And Matt knew.
God. He Knew. -

They didn’t sleep. They didn’t say much. Just one more game, one more goal, one more night pretending the end wasn’t already waiting at the door.
Now it’s the morning after and Auston’s driving Mitch as usual. But this time it wasn't to the rink. It was to a goodbye that neither of them wanted to give, and a silence that said everything they never could.
And sometimes, saying goodbye means walking away without looking back, leaving nothing but the haunting silence where something dear used to be.

Summary
When the news breaks that Mitch Marner is leaving the Leafs, Auston finds out with the rest of the world.
No warning. No call. Just silence. The kind that hurts worse than anything ever said out loud.
But silence doesn't last forever.
A late night phone call. A fight no one wanted to have. A knock on the door that Auston still would've answered every time.
One last night. One last game. One last chance to say what they never could.

Summary
Auston likes Mitch. Mitch likes Auston. These are the trials and tribulations of those statements being mutually exclusive. And of falling in love with one's best friend within the rather heteronormative NHL.
Or: A four-part ode to unrequited love, intense pining, breaking down the walls of toxic masculinity, and the smug satisfaction of things (eventually) coming full circle.

Summary
“Auston…” Mitch murmured, unable to finish his sentence.
Auston pulled back just enough to look into his eyes again.
“You don’t have to say anything,” Auston said, smiling tenderly. “I just want you to know how special you are.”
Mitch felt warmth rise in his cheeks, but at the same time, something inside him seemed to settle. He had never felt so vulnerable, yet he had never felt so loved.
“I… I think I’ve fallen even more in love with you,” Mitch confessed, his voice so low it was almost a whisper.
Auston smiled, leaning in to kiss him again, a kiss that conveyed everything he felt: affection, desire, and the promise to always be there. The golden marks on Mitch’s skin glowed even brighter, as if responding to Auston’s touch and love, filling the room with a light that seemed to emanate from their connected souls.
When they finally pulled apart, Mitch chuckled softly, his blue eyes sparkling like never before.
