“We’re about to be on a plane flight together for eight hours and this is how you kick things off?”
“You are stuck with me for much longer than that,” Ilya said, and kissed Shane on the cheek.

The way she felt under his hands, his body.
He cannot die yet when there’s life like this to be lived. When he might yet feel like that again.
AU. Couldn't leave in that courtoom confession of Luke's. Literally, Cassie could have said then what she said 24 hours later and it'd have been fine? Mash-up of book and movie canon, inspired by the amazing "Fire In My Bones" by Amethyzt, who had the genius idea of the court martial never happening and Luke and Cassie having to figure it out themselves. This story is not in that universe, but in the same spirit. (Go read it, I consider all of the interactions she wrote between Luke and Cassie's mom canon). I also needed more of Luke's journey from a problematic guy to someone worthy of Cassie's love.
