Now, it is fifteen years later, and Kurogane and Fai have returned for their daughter.
This takes place during Himiko and Uravity's big fight in episode 158, "A Girl's Ego."

“Are you sure it's okay?” Mokona asked the minute Kurogane had slid the door open, flying up to greet him. He wasn't sure if the little creature just inherently knew what had happened or if it had managed to hear them somehow, but he wasn't about to question it. Mokona was much more mysterious than he'd first thought all those years ago.
“Of course it is,” Kurogane said defensively. “Why wouldn't it be?”
“...because you just gave up your home and good graces for me...”
