The Corinthian nodded tightly, trying not to dislodge his creator’s hand. It would have physically hurt him to admit how euphoric the touch of his maker was. “Millennia by your side. And it took you weeks to even notice that I had left the Dreaming.”
“I noticed the moment you left, Corinthian. The very second you crossed the border into the Waking.” Dream brushed a thumb over Corinthian's fine cheekbone. "I hoped you might return of your own volition. My masterpiece. I hoped the millennia by my side would have wrought a sense of loyalty to me.” Dream brought up his other hand, running it through Corinthian’s hair. “It didn’t. It broke my heart instead."
