He'd had ear infections as a child that had muted everything and made him have to focus on people's mouths as they spoke, never meeting their eyes, which grew harder as he grew older and his eyes grew worse. Lan Wangji wanted to ask him what books he normally liked to read, wanted to say that Wei Wuxian might enjoy mystery books, as they grab attention right from the beginning, and if that still didn’t help, he would be willing to read to Wei Wuxian, every night, whatever book he wanted. He wanted to say all these things, but what he asked was
“What do you mean ‘right now’?”
