Summary
After his misadventure in a certain Riverside bar (narrated in Part 1 of the series), Jim joins Starfleet Academy. A weird grumpy doctor, afraid of half the things quite essential to Starfleet, makes it his task to heal Jim's hidden traumas. Unfortunately, there are several obstacles to the therapy: Jim is distrustful and expert in denial, and McCoy is attracted to Jim in a way a doctor shouldn't be attracted to his patient. On the other hand, after his ugly divorce McCoy doesn't do relationships, so it's hard to figure out what he really wants. Plus, Jim has some enemies in Starfleet Academy, who hate him precisely because they have already harmed him before. Navigating in all this chaos is quite a struggle. Will love prove to be an adequate guide, or a dangerous illusion?
