Right now, the Earth spins faster than the Moon– its tides would slow the Earth’s rotation while pushing the Moon away from it. If it stopped rotating, the Moon would stop drifting away from it. Instead of slowing down, its tides would accelerate their spin. Quietly, gently, the Moon’s gravity would tug on our planet… and Earth would start turning again.
