When they escape the car, she heads right to the hair aisle before she can convince herself it’s a bad idea. She locates a box of bubblegum pink and her heart flutters as she picks it up. She hasn’t felt more sure about anything since the day she packed her bags. Luke meets her at the self-checkout counter, dumping an assortment of candy from his hands. Bobby sets a few back when Luke runs back to the car to grab his wallet. Carrie can’t help the smile that tugs at her lips. “So what’s brought on the mental breakdown?” He asks.
“Excuse me?”
Bobby motions to the box of dye clutched in her hands like a lifeline.
“I just wanted to try something new.”
