"He was an absolute asshole to her that first day, and they hadn’t spoken since, not that she’d have wanted to. She was nervous to see him again, but ready for whatever his reaction might be. She’d take his lead- if he wanted to be mean and snip at her every opportunity he got, she was happy to give it right back to him. If he wanted to smile, make amends (they taught you that in rehab, she was pretty sure), and play nice, she’d gladly smile, make amends, and play nice.
