Rumi said nothing, eyelids drooping until it was difficult for them to pull their head back up. Peter cupped their cheek with one hand, forcing Rumi to pry their eyes open and stare at him. They let out a small sigh and leaned into his touch like a lizard to a warm rock. They didn’t want to admit how nice it felt, but right now Peter could be their own source of divinity. A miracle among a godless realm. A sense of warmth on a freezing winter day.

But after a run-in leaves Michael expelled from Adam as a vessel, the two are more than determined to fix the issue. After all, a millennium together as angel and vessel isn’t easy to come back from.
