Summary
title comes from the narration at the end of the batman: under the hood comic
Jason Todd comes back from the dead, but first he dies.
Any story about Jason Todd therefore cannot help but to be a story about his death, even when he lives, maybe especially then.Jason Todd dies. This is a fact both inescapable and inexcusable. Jason Todd is re-written, re-interpreted, retconned, changed forever. But first he dies.
There are flashbacks about it, some are accurate to what we first read happened, some are telling us a story about who he is and what he deserved that we might not fully believe, some are merely a reference to a reference, an image that reminds us of the obvious. Jason Todd dies, it makes him stagnant, his death perpetuates his identity, it makes him unique, his death is something he never moves on from or is not allowed either by the writers or his own relationships to move on from, his death is not just a death but a murder. People did this to him, characters and writers and voters. But he comes back, he lives. I don't think he ever moves on from that either.
This isn't a story but the summary of one: The truth is...
