After waking up from a nightmare where he witnesses his Hellfire leader die, Dustin is quick to brush it off as coincidence. His traumatised brain conjuring up new tortures.
Until he dreams that Chrissy Cunningham - a girl he's never met but has heard whispers of in the halls - is crumpled up like paper and dies in the woods with Eddie Munson watching on helplessly. And then he wakes up and finds out, the next morning, that it actually happened.
Now he can't quite brush it off so easily.
He just has to find Eddie, defeat whatever evil force is at play once more in Hawkins, and get his body to stop feeling so much pre-emptive dread around people he cares about. Oh, and stop the nosebleeds.

The boy was huddled in an old blanket that had once belonged to his cousin, Dudley, but he had outgrown it far too quickly (and not in the vertical sense), rendering it surplus to requirements. He was fighting back tears: from the pain, from the injustice, from the desperate desire for comfort from anyone at all. The door to his cupboard creaked open with a barely audible sound, and a tall woman stood before him. She was slightly shorter than Petunia, though not as gaunt as his aunt. Blinded by tears and his poor eyesight—which his relatives had point-blank refused to have corrected—the boy could barely make out the woman’s face, but she smelled of something bitter and fragrant, like proper herbal soap. The boy had once seen a photograph of a girl with curly hair in his aunt’s room and had privately decided, not daring to ask his relatives, that it was his mother. The woman before him had the same wild, bushy hair, though in the poor light, or rather the near total lack of it, he couldn’t make out its colour.
“Are you my mum?” the child whispered, hiccupping with the force of his emotions.
“Yes,” the woman whispered back, in the same tone. She held out her hand, and the boy grabbed it without a second thought.

Sue him, by the time he was supposed to be graduating and heading off to college he fought two times with the Upside Down. He fought Billy Hargrove and was scared shitless but he wanted to get near two of his kids, one of them Hargrove’s step-sister. Hell, he even got stuck with Russians and thought he was going to die down there. However, he’s never felt this type of scared, an almost there body on his lap, holding on for dear life because he can’t lose. Not this, not after everything he’s gone through to keep him safe.
