He retrieves the looking glass he uses to shave–ornate and gilded, stolen off of a Dutch merchant some seven years ago–from his sea chest. Briskly stripping out of his shirt, he moves nearer to the window to have enough light to survey the situation. The reflective surface reveals the problem in far more detail, and he frowns all the mightier: his chest, ordinarily comprised of the hard and defined muscle of a life spent sailing, has swollen to… concerning proportions.
