Summary
The first time Vio saw Shadow, the phantom had seemed larger than the world. He was the frame and the centerpiece of the night scene, and even now Vio finds his breath just a bit quicker at the memory. Shadow had been dramatic and simply taken joy in scaring others into agreement and subservience, including Vio at the time, but the effect on an audience without the all too intimate knowledge of his wishes and fears was undeniably chilling.
The next first time, after a suicide and theft and forceful reversal of his choice, Ganon’s general resembles the confidence of his former status as much as the shade under a tree at noon resembles the night.
This AU is the same as my Castle Route fix-it AU, but if the Yiga hadn‘t been caught by the knights just after resurrecting Shadow and they‘d instead taken him with them. Basically: 1) the Yiga exist, 2) Shadow left behind force gems after his death that Vio took with him, 3) he researched force gems in general and experimented with reviving animals, 4) the Yiga stole Shadow‘s and resurrected him.
