“Clay?” it’s supposed to sound casual, but his voice cracks in the middle, so clearly, he can’t even do that right.
“Mph,” Clay groans, rolling over and folding his pillow over his ear.
Justin winces, closes his eyes, tells himself it is fine, he’ll just wait ‘til morning, but … his skin crawls and his throat is tight, and Clay is dead to the world.
It would be easy, so easy, to sneak down the stairs, steal Clay’s bike and head to the docks. He’d be back before anyone even knew he was gone, and nothing would hurt anymore.
“Clay,” he says again, louder.
