Summary
It is remarkably easy to get bored on Monopoly Mountain.
While Scar is out scamming—ahem, bargaining with the other factions, Grian sits house in the desert, his hands itching for something to do. The cactus walls are done, the pits of lava are dug. All his days are spent supposedly 'standing guard'—which isn't even true, because Grian is sitting half the time! So Grian considers the plots of land around him, his horrid diet of nothing but meat everyday, and does the only thing he can: he starts a garden.
In which Grian becomes a gardener.

Bookmarker's Notes
I should have bookmarked this when I saw it for the first time but better late than never! I saw this in 2022 and it left such an etching impression that I still think about it 3 years later which is why I'm here, after spending hours trying to find this masterpiece. This has been residing inside of my brain(RENT FREE) and it really truly encapsulated what I enjoyed the most about desert duo in the first place.
THE DOMESTICITY, GRIAN's garden stemming from his love and care he's so full of love and life USGWJEBWKOW keeping certain weird tasting seeds just because Scar loves them, growing flowers because Scar wanted them, literally finding a way to grow flowers in THE DESERT for Scar... Realize he's slowly caring for Scar, falling for him...HIS DAUNTING REALIZATION THAT HE TRUST SCAR ENTIRELY AND UTTERLY.That this isn't simply a business partnership, a contract but rather a relationship, a real tangible close friendship and he's starting to care,to love the man and going as far as to indulge him, humour him and care for him(Wearing clothes he got u ohhhh ik what ur love language is AOS). The flowers being metaphor for his devotion, his promise to stay.
THE RAIN SCENE?? IDK HOW I FORGOT THIS SCENE BUT IM UNWELL?? GRIAN searching for a warmth admist the cold torrents streaming down his face and finding Scar's hand, Scar squeezing his hands harder.. GRIAN grabbing Scar's pants to stop him from standing up... THEY WERE LIVING THE LIFE THEY WERE HAPPY IT WAS THEIR GARDEN IT WAS THEIR FLOWERS GROWING IN THEIR HOME.. HOME, THEIR HOME.
AND THE ENDING??Oh the ending.. Scar's bouquet of flowers were a plea for Grian to stay, GRIAN's flowers were a promise that he'll stay by Scar's side forever until the very end. The mourning of his first life is insanely clever, because the domestic life of gardener Grian, the homemaker Grian is no more, that's all gone in favour of bloodshed, of killing for the man he loves. But it's also the mourning of THEIR life-the domestic life of Grian and Scar, where they were their own. But now it belonged to the red urges, tied down by violent and war. It was attachment that kept them together, it was affection that killed them in the end.As soon as Scar died his life essentially ended too,the life that he wanted with Scar, his comforts and vanities, himself in favor of Scar.
But the remnants of that life still remained,in the flowers in glass cases, in the seeds planted in their garden. And THE ENDING, the flowers will always grow back, every spring even when they're long gone, especially with the ending I can imagine years and years to come, when their home becomes nothing but debris buried under sands, bodies long decomposed ,garden long abandoned, the only proof of their existence -the flowers will rise as if to remind the world of their life,of the love between Grian and Scar,of their humanity and their affection. As if to claim their love is eternal, routinely and even if they wilt and burn under the increased heat of summer and slowly fizzle away by autumn until the harsh winter carries them away..by the time spring arrives they'll always reemerge.
After all, wherever lilacs are, poppies will always follow
