Summary
Shen Jiu sees echoes of himself in the wounded eyes of his 16-year-old disciple, Luo Binghe. Yet each reflection shows a cruel divergence. When Shen Jiu finally does a near-complete reversal, extending warmth and gentleness, it’s both overwhelming and disconcerting. For Binghe, this shift is a lifeline he desperately needs. He latches onto this kindness even when it emerges from the most unlikely source.
But the reconciliation is far from seamless. Their bond is dysfunctional, raw, and filled with tension. Each soft gesture magnifies the years of cruelty he's inflicted.
They have a long road ahead and neither is prepared to walk it.
