“I always like spending time with you, Derek.”
Spencer says it softly as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world. Like he didn’t just stop Derek’s heart in its tracks. Like all this doesn’t make Derek want to call Penelope and scream at her that Dr. Spencer Reid, the man with ink stained hands and a thousand books in his head, likes spending time with him, can you believe it? And isn’t that stupid as all hell. Of fucking course Spencer likes spending time with him. They’re friends. Maybe it’s just different when it’s said out loud.
Still, Derek wants to confess something equally dumb like ‘I really want to kiss you right now’ or ‘I spent last night thinking about the way your pinky curls under the handle of your coffee mug whenever you take a sip.’ But he's a coward and a fake so instead he says, “I like spending time with you too.”
