After catching the crown prince’s eye at Harrenhal Lyanna Stark is sent to Dorne to assuage the paranoid Aerys and preserve peace. Oberyn has no wish to wed a wolf pup, but for his sister Elia's sake he'll do anything. He's taken off guard when he greets his sullen young bride on the docks in Sunspear.
Lyanna looked him up and down, then, seemingly having made up her mind, she answered, “I should like you to take my maidenhead.”
Oberyn blinked. It wasn’t as though the request had never been posed to him before — but he certainly hadn’t expected to hear his soon-to-be wife make the demand ahead of their vows.
“Pardon?” he choked.
“I need to be ruined,” The girl waved her hand, as if it were obvious. “Coming to Dorne, it’s all folly. My father cannot think it will persuade the king.”
“So you must be…fucked?”
“Yes,” she said agreeably. “But surely even your princes demand untouched brides? So if you take my maidenhead, your Prince Oberyn shall have no choice but to end our betrothal and send me back North.”
Oberyn stared. She was wholly unaware that the man who stood before her now was the very same prince. -
