Sam huffs out a laugh, “did it feel good?”
That doesn’t cover it. Not nearly enough. In fact, Jacob doesn’t even think he has the vocabulary to properly express what just happened. He keeps thinking Sam has given him his last life-changing moment, each time can’t possibly open up his world even more. Yet, it does. When Jacob leaves this room, he will again be a changed man. He feels euphoric, he needs this everyday of his life. He’s addicted.
“I don’t think you should ever leave me,” is what Jacob settles on.
Yes, he’s talking about never wanting Sam to pull out of him, his keenness for at least two more rounds. He also means it in every other way too. He’ll never be able to leave Sam again, not leave him in this hotel room, not leave him in life. They’re woven together.
He feels Sam nod his head against his neck, “we’ll never, ever part. Whatever you want, I have for you.”

He turns up his head and sees Lestat suck on his bloodied fingers from where he managed to nick at Louis’ victim’s…wrist, Louis belatedly realizes through the smallest change in the blood flow. He keeps his fangs in the man, taking more than before in one swallow. Searches for the edge of Lestat’s mind—and there it is, cold thrumming of his power, huge, like alien creatures of their hearts’ drums. Louis blinks, letting the weight of the man lean on the wall that separates the alley from the office building’s yard. We can’t all be a massive spectacle , he thinks and asks, suspicious, though his mental defenses are up, could you do that the entire time? be in my head when we’re feeding from the same person?
I am not in your head, cheri, Lestat smiles, indulgently proud, and Louis shivers at the last word. I’m in his. Like you. Lestat steps forward, closer to where the man groans in pain with Louis slowing down his feeding to listen, to watch. It is like an Internet chat. It is, if you want to be particular, me making him think these thoughts, in my voice. And you, in yours. I haven't done it before because you weren't strong enough to respond.
And I would have freaked, Louis thinks as he swallows around another mouthful of blood, reeling at hearing Lestat’s voice in his mind or close to his mind for the first time in over a hundred years, voluminous but soft. The memories of him being there before are a haunting, and Louis doesn’t like speaking to anyone telepathically nowadays, but the knowledge of his presence so close to it is soothing, warm. And here he is here watching Louis feed, real, in the year 2024, wearing a green t-shirt with a Massive Attack logo, denim jacket, and dark-blue jeans, — Louis is vaguely surprised he’s not wearing makeup. Lestat’s eyes are pitch-black, the iridescent blue of his irises rendered invisible by the flickering fluorescent light from above. Louis wants him—wants his fangs, his cock, his mouth—his closeness—so much he feels faint with it, a plunge of need spreading through him like a sudden storm.
Louis closes his eyes tightly to stop watching him. Makes another swallow. It’s like all the blood he’s drunk from the man before has evaporated to process this other hunger.

Esparza’s just glad it’s a shallow grade, because he’s sure Chief wouldn’t balk at the face of yet another awful tire climb. All the river they took on as passenger is escaping out drainage points built for this, but Esparza’s pants are still wet and he doesn’t need this to be worse.

He does enjoy other literature, mostly vampire-centric literature, sprawled across whatever furniture of Jacob’s he can locate in the time between taking off his shoes and tying his hair up. Jacob is suddenly taken by the image of Sam, legs folded across each-other, severely beaten copy of Stoker’s Dracula in hand.
He ties his hair up to read. After an hour or two, it becomes this haphazard, lopsided ponytail, the one you’d usually find a child adorning after a hectic school day. This is an otherwise inconsequential detail that Jacob enjoys knowing.
Sam reads with this sort of intensity, too, taking each line in with this razor sharp focus, his fingers flirting with the next page. Other times, Jacob catches him, the line of his mouth carved into a smile.
(“Is this, like, preparation, or are you just being, I don’t know, a huge vampire nerd?”
Sam’s eyes flickered to where Jacob was leaning over the couch. A strand of blonde had fallen across his face, and Jacob’s fingers twitched. Overcome with the urge to push it back behind his ear.

Jacob hums, then cups the back of Sam’s head. His other hand rubs between his shoulder blades. He guides Sam’s cheek to his sternum, right above the steady drumming of his heart. He’s calm. Reassuring Sam in all ways—Jacob isn’t phased at all by this, by being so close in private. Maybe it isn’t weird. It’s fine, even, fine for Sam to want this comfort, to need it to get back to himself.
