    He just wanted his kids.

    Just wanted to hold them in his arms and hug them close, wanted to promise them that everything would be okay.

    Is that really too much to ask for?

    "Please," Phil whispers brokenly, the first few tears slipping past his defenses, and once those fall, it's all over.

    As he sinks to his knees, a mix between a sob and a chirp springs free from him, more and more soon to follow as Phil leans on the heavy iron door for support, because he has nothing and no one else to lean on right now.

    And all alone in that birdhouse, the Angel of Death slowly begins to break.
